Dramatic Landscape Patio Transformation

Updated: Jun 21, 2023

We are nearly at the one-year mark in our landscape transformation where we set out to implement a landscape design that connects guests with nature, each other, respects our natural surroundings by increasing biodiversity, reestablishing native plantings, and attract beneficial pollinators.

This past week a pivotal part of our landscape renovation project was completed providing a tranquil place to take in two mountain views from one vantage point, namely, Whiteside and Little Terrapin Mountains. Perched on a mountain ridge, our location provides terrific panoramic mountain views. With the new patio installation you can now sit and sip your coffee, soak in the jacuzzi, or soak in sunrays on loungers overlooking Whiteside Mountain where the view changes minute-by-minute based on whatever Mother Nature provides.

To see and appreciate the transformation we provide before, during and after photos. Most of these projects were undertaken as DIY (See prior blog posts).

Patio & Jacuzzi: The intention of the transformation of this unusable hillside was to create a nexus for communication between families and friends. Someone can be grilling or relaxing on the upper deck, sunning on the lower deck, sitting at the firepit, lounging on the patio or sitting in the jacuzzi, or even playing a game of cornhole. But in all instances, everyone can communicate with each other. And this also turned out to be a special place to take in the mountain views.

Game Lawn & Rock Garden: We wanted to open the space between the home and the mountain views. To create separation we installed a game lawn, a short hiking trail, and currently in progress is a mushroom nursery, wildflower meadow and rock garden. These photos show the transformation from an overgrown and unusable space. Where possible, we reused existing materials like logs, stone and minimized the sodded area to reduce the chemicals used in the upkeep of a lawn.

Paved Drive: We transformed a once gravel drive across the property to a paved drive with landscape lighting to ensure our visitors can easily access the home and its mountain views.
