New Cashiers Vacation Rental Listing

We are pleased to announce our latest new short-term vacation rental in Cashiers, Cattail Cottage. It is now available for direct bookings on our website at https://www.cattail-cottage.com.

Why Cattail Cottage?: The home sits on 3.31 acres, which we found on Zillow in late summer of last year. There were several aspects about the property that we found compelling:

1. It's on a small private lake with the property line dividing it in two, along with a home across the lake barely visible most times of the year.

2. The home is only .2 of a mile from the Cashiers Greenway Ramble, a one-mile loop with expansion plans that takes hikers all around Cashiers. We love the Cashiers Ramble!

3. There is a fresh water stream that continually feeds the lake and part of the property is a lovely marsh area with cypress trees, cattails, and aquatic iris. It was clear how we could connect guests with this serene and unique environment.

4. The cottage is very much part of the early history of Cashiers having been built by original lumber industry families in 1937. There was cottage charm that could be preserved.

In total, Cattail Cottage was an unbeatable combination of tranquility with proximity to Cashiers!

The great room is a bright and airy with windows that surround the space, along with skylights to look up through trees, it brings the outside landscape and light inside. Originally the ceiling had plywood and was painted blue with a hodgepodge of trim boards. The old single collar beam did not provide support to the roof. The three new substantial beams now provide structural support for the roof.

The kitchen also went through major transformation with new quartz counters, sink and faucet, backsplash, repainted cabinets with new hardware. Cabinets were removed to create a wonderful coffee station.

The coffee bar also has Keurig coffee maker and kettle for tea or hot chocolate.

Exterior Renovations

The landscape has gone through as much of a transformation as the home interior. We wanted to bring our guests into nature in a bigger way. With an added dock, you can now sit at the end and feel part of the lake. We've observed turtles, all manner of water fowl and great blue heron, and even an otter each evening.

A provided fishing kayak with lift makes paddling on the lake a pleasure with easy entry and exit and kayak storage out of the water and off the dock.

The gravel drive once obstructed the view of the lake from the deck and the great room windows with parked vehicles. The drive has now been pulled back from the water views and replaced by a new lawn and fire pit.

The hammock is a wonderful place to observe wildlife on the lake.

The dock is a terrific spot to enjoy a cup of coffee.

We added a wider entrance as well as a portico to keep the rain away as you enter. A sturdy handrail was added to the steps coming up from the drive as well as landscape lighting for visibility at night. Stone steps were added to access the deck to ensure a solid footing.

In order to expand the use of the property we located a picnic table, park grill, hammock and bird houses into an area we call, Camp Cattail. It is a lovely spot to grill and feel like your enjoying a church picnic, especially when you hear the area church bells ringing.
